Postpartum Depression

What’s postpartum depression?

Postpartum depression is suffered by a person following childbirth (or loss due to abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal birth) typically arising from the combination of hormal changes, psychological adjustments & fatigue.

It’s beyond baby blues.

Postpartum depression symptoms may include:

Depressed mood or severe mood swings

Excessive crying

Difficulty bonding with your baby

Withdrawing from family and friends

Loss of appetite or eating much more than usual

Inability to sleep (insomnia) or sleeping too much

Overwhelming fatigue or loss of energy

Reduced interest and pleasure in activities you used to enjoy

Intense irritability and anger

Folks who experience symptoms of depression are MORE than likely to develop postpartum depression after childbirth or loss. Black birthing folks are 2x likely to suffer from postpartum depression than white birthing folks.
