What’s postpartum anxiety?

Postpartum anxiety is suffered by a person following childbirth (or loss due to abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal birth) typically arising from the combination of hormal changes, psychological adjustments & fatigue.

It’s beyond baby blues.

Postpartum anxiety symptoms may include:

-Extreme mood swings

-Intrusive and persistent thoughts

-Excessive worry

-Insomnia

-Avoidant behavior

-Agitation & irritation

-Tension

-Irregular heartbeat

-Panic attacks

Folks who experience symptoms of anxiety before pregnancy are MORE than likely to develop postpartum anxiety after childbirth or loss. Black birthing folks are 2x likely to suffer from postpartum aKC iety than white birthing folks.

How do you support Black birthing folks to ease their postpartum anxiety?
